It is with warmth and gratitude that we invite you to be part of something truly transformative in ensuring a healthier and brighter future for our little ones.
With the support of donors like you, in 2022, we launched our first School Based Health Centers in Honaunau and Kealakehe. Pediatricians, pediatric mental health providers, and skilled health center staff seamlessly wove themselves into the fabric of local schools, creating a haven where keiki can thrive physically as well as academically.
School-based care is an extension of the health center that helps families gain access to care that they’d otherwise miss, and helps the youngest members of our community to get a solid, healthy start. So far, 94% of the patients that we’ve seen in the SBHCs were already overdue for their annual Well Child Exam, a service that we can provide within the school setting. Nearly 80% of the keiki that we’ve seen in our SBHCs are already HICHC patients, but 18% of SBHC patients have been without an established primary care provider or medical home.
Our school-based program is more than just a health initiative; it’s a promise—a promise that every child, regardless of their circumstances, will have a genuine opportunity to grow, learn, and flourish. You can be a part of keeping this promise to build a healthier island community by making a donation today.
Donations are fully tax deductible.
At Hawai’i Island Community Health Center, we believe strongly that art builds connections, uplifts our patients, increases respect, and enhances the healing environment. This is the philosophy that has shaped our Art is Healing Exhibit, an annual juried show featuring the work of local artists.
A noteworthy feature of Art is Healing that sets it apart from other exhibitions is that the local artwork that is purchased from the show is donated to the health center to become part of our growing permanent collection of art. In this way, our patients are treated to an exclusive and evolving collection of local artwork while they are on their healing journey.
Since the nation’s first health Community Health Centers opened in 1965, expansion of the federally supported health center system to over 1,400 organizations has created an affordable health care option for more than 30 million people. Health centers are more than a clinic, they’re a movement helping to provide care to those who need it, regardless of ability to pay.
At HICHC, we’re incredibly proud to be YOUR community health center, and to provide comprehensive and integrated care to our patients island wide.

What to Expect: Once you receive your letter, and follow the instructions, you’ll be notified of whether or not you can keep your Med-QUEST plan. This should take less than 90 days.

Hawaiʻi Island Community Health Center
Our name and logo have changed, but our mission, locations, hours, staff and medical providers, our roots and the relationships we have nurtured in our communities around the island remain the same.
Quality Care, Island-Wide
This year, Bay Clinic and West Hawaii Community Health Center, both non-profit Federally Qualified Health Centers, merged operations as Hawai’i Island Community Health Center. This bold move created an integrated system focused on quality care and the delivery of medical, dental, and behavioral health services island wide.
Together as Hawai’i Island Community Health Center, our new organization will continue providing care to our patients and communities. We prioritize a team approach, as a Patient Centered Medical Home with wrap-around services to improve patient experience and outcomes. As a unified team, we look forward to working together to improve the health and wellness of our communities.

In the Words of Our Patients:
“This place is amazing, the staff is friendly, they do everything they can to make sure that you get the help that you need. The doctors are very personable and in tune, and they provide very comprehensive help. I got help signing up for insurance, they got me in as soon as possible. I mean, if there were 10 stars I’d give this place a ten star review.”
