National Health Center Week celebrates Community Health Centers like HICHC all across the country.
Community Health Centers serve as a beacon of strength, service, and care in their communities. In moments of pain and loss, they offer support and love. In moments of triumph, we offer hope and a vision for the future.
This year, each day of the week celebrates a different member of the Health Center ‘ohana.
Sunday, 8/6 is Public Health in Housing Day
Monday, 8/7 is Healthcare for People Experiencing Homelessness Day
Tuesday, 8/8 is Agricultural Worker Health Day
Wednesday, 8/9 is Patient Appreciation Day
Thursday, 8/10 is Stakeholder/Supporter Appreciation Day
Friday, 8/11 is Health Center Staff Appreciation Day
Saturday, 8/12 is Children’s Health Day
The most important step you can take is to update your contact info. If you have moved or your mailing address has changed in the past 2 years, update your contact information with Med-QUEST. You could lose coverage if they can’t reach you.
To make updates, call (800) 316-8005 of log into your QUEST account at https://medical.mybenefits.hawaii.gov
Next, keep an eye on your mailbox! Over the next year (at any time from now to April 2024), members will be sent a pink envelope the month before their redetermination is due. When you receive the envelope, read the letter and follow all the instructions.
What to Expect: Once you receive your letter, and follow the instructions, you’ll be notified of whether or not you can keep your Med-QUEST plan. This should take less than 90 days.
If you are no longer eligible for coverage, you’ll have a chance to appeal the decision, and will be given options for other insurance coverage through the healthcare.gov marketplace.
Our enrollment team at the health center is here to help make sure you don’t have a gap in care, we can help you walk through the process and make sure you have coverage.
Our health center sites are upgrading to the Epic medical record system, used by leading health care centers across the US.
What to Expect:
- You may experience longer wait times while we make this transition.
- Patients will need to fill out some additional paperwork at the first appointment following the switch. Coming a little early can help!
- Our online patient portal is changing to MyChart.
- We highly recommend using MyChart, where you can message your provider, request an appointment online, and keep track of all your information.
- If you used our previous portals (Patient Portal and My Health Record) please take some time to review your old portal account and save any records you need.

Hawaiʻi Island Community Health Center
Our name and logo have changed, but our mission, locations, hours, staff and medical providers, our roots and the relationships we have nurtured in our communities around the island remain the same.
Quality Care, Island-Wide
This year, Bay Clinic and West Hawaii Community Health Center, both non-profit Federally Qualified Health Centers, merged operations as Hawai’i Island Community Health Center. This bold move created an integrated system focused on quality care and the delivery of medical, dental, and behavioral health services island wide.
Together as Hawai’i Island Community Health Center, our new organization will continue providing care to our patients and communities. We prioritize a team approach, as a Patient Centered Medical Home with wrap-around services to improve patient experience and outcomes. As a unified team, we look forward to working together to improve the health and wellness of our communities.
Care Regardless of Your Ability to Pay
As a Federally Qualified Health Center, we provide care regardless of your ability to pay. No one is turned away for lack of insurance or inability to pay. Our team can assist you with insurance enrollment. Medicaid/Quest, Medicare, and most private insurance plans are accepted, and we offer a Sliding Fee Scale discount based on income level and household size.

Community Health Quality Recognition (CHQR) badges recognize Health Center Programs that have made notable quality improvement achievements in the areas of access, quality, health equity, health information technology, and COVID-19 public health emergency response. Learn More.
Medical
Our medical team provides quality integrated primary medical care for the entire ‘ohana. From same-day appointments to preventative care, treatment for chronic illness, vaccinations, medical screenings, and assessments, we are here to help you meet your health goals.
Behavioral Health
Hawai’i County experiences some of the highest rates of depression and anxiety in the state, and our team is here to help. At HICHC our psychologists and clinical social workers work side by side with your primary care provider to treat the whole person; offering services for children, adolescents, adults, and families.
Dental
We have an award winning dental team who will work with you or your keiki to understand your unique needs. Whether you need general dental care or are having a dental emergency, we welcome you.
In the Words of Our Patients:
“This place is amazing, the staff is friendly, they do everything they can to make sure that you get the help that you need. The doctors are very personable and in tune, and they provide very comprehensive help. I got help signing up for insurance, they got me in as soon as possible. I mean, if there were 10 stars I’d give this place a ten star review.”
